Our Curriculum

At Barrow Island Community Primary School we teach the National Curriculum whilst adapting our teaching to make the learning experience bespoke and unique for all children. We constantly adapt our curriculum and aim for it to be one which will help our children become responsible citizens and innovators. We want them to be adaptable, capable of problem solving, know that they can drive change and be able to visualise a future in which they can reach their full potential.

Our curriculum is designed to accelerate progress to overcome disadvantage across all subjects, but with a necessary focus on English and Mathematics. We do this by building on prior knowledge and helping the children retain what they have been taught. We aim for them to know more and remember more.

We provide a creative, values rich, safe and secure environment for pupils to explore and develop. We utilise opportunities, partnerships and experiences that our local area has to offer. We aim to provide them with the resilience that they need to succeed, through an extensive residential and outdoor and adventurous activity programme.

We are committed to celebrating what is unique about each and every individual within our school. As a staff we aim to be the best we can be. Only by doing this can we enable our children to also be the best they can be.

Our website details what we teach and in what year group we teach it. This can be found on the yearly overview documents. Some units are moved within the year as changes occur but what is stipulated in each year group is taught in each year group. Lots of pictures and videos of activities from each year group can be seen on our Facebook page.
