Our school is passionate about reading and we wish to promote our love of reading for pleasure onto the children.
During the beginning of Reception children take part in pre-reading activities which are designed to promote the skills necessary when learning to read, the children then move onto the reading scheme.
Within our school we have many reading schemes, this provides our children with a varied reading experience throughout each reading stage.
We follow the DFES letters and sounds scheme of work and children develop their sight vocabulary through their understanding of tricky words and high frequency words.
Extended reading skills are encouraged and a wide selection of books are available for children to choose from, non-fiction, poetry, newspapers, classics and stories.
Children take home books on a daily basis and are encourage to read at home.
Throughout the school children develop their reading comprehension which is taught from Years 1-6.
The reading challenges in Key Stage 1 have been really successful in encouraging children to read at home.
